Mouches Volantes is pleased to present Sexual Healers TV a solo exhibition by Will Fredo about sex work,created as a proheaux art channel dedicated to body politic. Through the artist’s research on the sex industry in the Americas and interviews and performances with two sexual healers, the semi-sci-fi video installation addresses an intersection of topics including sex workers' subjectivities and rights, technology as tool for democratizing pleasure, Black Trans Body politics, decolonizing sexuality, among others.

The 4-channel video installation pieces together semi-fictional episodes that start with Fredo’s audition for an adult movie in Medellin, followed by interviews with Erik, a sex worker and Leo, a criminal law attorney/OnlyFans star in Bogota. The exhibition ends with a 360° explicit video installation* of a performance of sexual nature between Will Fredo and Erik about body politic, informed by the sufi meditation and proheaux womanist practices of the artist. The opening will feature a performance with Zimbabwean gender non-conforming multimedia artist Mandhla. Central to Sexual Healers TV is how the artist engages with the artistic and social practices of othering subjects. Will Fredo’s various embodiments throughout the episodes also put into question institutionalised notions of respectability, power relations, epistemology and legitimacy. The channel will be gradually expanded with further video and performance art commissions.

*As part of the artwork's concept there is a fee to watch this video installation, and 30% of the takings belong to the performer Erik.
An edition of 20 artworks for 80€ each will be produced for the exhibition.

Bio:

Will Fredo (Furtado) is a non-binary artist, writer and editor exploring power dynamics, cultural dislocation and the intersection of pop culture, decolonial thought, Blackness, kuirness and technology. Since 2017 Will has been part of Contemporary And (&), an art platform focused on African perspectives. In their artistic practice Will Fredo works with images and texts to explore decoloniality and Global South epistemologies. Will has exhibited with institutions including Museum Ludwig, HKW, Goethe Institut, Körnerpark Galerie Berlin, Supplement Projects Miami, 1.1 Basel, whitebox.art, and Sharjah Film Platform.

Das Wettrennen zwischen digitaler Innovation und gesellschaftlichem Fortschritt in Zeiten von Cam Love Mouches Volantes ist sehr erfreut, mit „Sexual Healers TV“ eine Einzelausstellung von Will Fredo in Form eines Webcastchannels zum Thema Sexarbeit und Body Politics im digitalen Zeitalter zu präsentieren. Die gezeigten semi- fiktionalen Videos basieren auf Recherchen von Will Fredo in der Sexfilmindustrie auf dem amerikanischen Doppelkontinent, sowie auf Interviews und Performances mit zwei Sexual Healers. Dabei geht es unter anderem um sich überschneidende Themen wie die Rechte und Subjektivitäten von Sex ArbeiterInnen, die Rolle von Technologie als Werkzeug um Vergnügen zu demokratisieren, Black Trans Body Politics und Dekolonializierung von Sexualität.

Die gezeigte 4-Kanal-Video-Installation zeigt Episoden, die mit einem Vorstellungsgespräch von Will Fredo für einen Erwachsenenfilm in Medellin/Kolumbien beginnen. Anschließend folgen Interviews mit Erik, einem Sexarbeiter und Leo, einem Rechtsanwalt/OnlyFans Star in Bogota. Die Ausstellung schließt ab mit einer 360° expliziten Videoinstallation* zu einer Performance sexueller Natur zwischen Will Fredo und Erik über Body Politics, beeinflusst von Sufi Meditation , Proheaux (Pro-SexarbeiterInnen / Unterstützung von SexarbeiterInnen) sowie Womanismus-Praktiken. Zur Eröffnung zeigt Will Fredo eine Performance gemeinsam mit Mandhla, eine trans-feminin, gender non-conforming KünstlerIn aus Berlin / Zimbabwe. Zentraler Aspekt von Sexual Healers TV ist die Art und Weise, wie sich Will Fredo mittels künstlerischer und sozialer Praktiken zu Ausgrenzung und Ausbeutung von Menschen engagiert. Die vielfältigen Ausführungen und Verkörperungen von Will Fredo im Rahmen dieses Projektes stellen auch die Frage nach institutionalisierter Anerkennung, Privilegien, Erkenntnistheorie und Legitimation. Der Kanal Sexual Healers TV wird fortlaufend mit weiteren Videos, Performances und Kunstkommissionen erweitert.

*Als Teil des Ausstellungskonzeptes wird der Zugang zu diesem Video gegen eine Gebühr möglich sein. Der Darsteller Erik erhält 30% der Einnahmen.
Zu der Ausstellung erscheint eine Edition in 20er Auflage zum Preis von 80€.

Will Fredo (Furtado) ist eine non-binäre KünstlerIn, SchriftstellerIn, RedakteurIn, und Teil Contemporary And (C&), mit Fokus auf dynamische Machtprozesse und kultureller Entwurzelung an der Schnittstelle von Popkultur, postkolonialen Gedanken, Schwarzsein, Queerness ('kuirness') und Technologie. Will Fredo hat bereits in folgenden Institutionen und Kunstprojekten ausgestellt: Museum Ludwig, HKW, Goethe Institut, Körnerpark Galerie Berlin, Supplement Projects Miami, 1.1 Basel, whitebox.art and Sharjah Film Platform.
