Hinter F44.3, dem nahezu beiläufig klingenden Titel der Soloshow des polnisch-deutschen Künstlers Kurt von Bley, verbirgt sich der ICD-Code für Trance- und Besessenheitszustände. Das International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, kurz ICD, ist ein weltweit anerkanntes System, in dem medizinische Diagnosen einheitlich benannt werden.

Im Zentrum der Ausstellung bei Mouches Volantes steht die kritische Auseinandersetzung mit religiösen Dogmen des Katholizismus und seinem immanenten Regelwerk, auf dem teils drakonische Rituale basieren. Dezidiert nimmt der Künstler die verborgene Seite von Austreibungspraktiken in den Blick. Parallel dazu betrachtet er die psychosomatischen Erklärungen der Schulmedizin und verarbeitet die Kontraste von Besessenheit und deren gesellschaftliche Auswirkungen visuell.

Kurt von Bley (*1976 in Königshütte/Polen) setzt sich in seinem multimedialen Œuvre mit dem Thema 'Identität' auseinander. Seine überwiegend skulpturalen, objekthaften und installativen Arbeiten sind auf radikale Art und Weise von religiösen Anspielungen durchzogen und enthalten zugleich autobiografischen Bezüge. Der Künstler lebt und arbeitet in Berlin, wo er derzeit an der Universität der Künste in der Klasse von Prof. Thomas Zipp studiert. Mit seinen Arbeiten ist er in Deutschland und international in Einzel- und Gruppenausstellungen vertreten.

Dr. Nadia Ismail ist Leiterin der Kunsthalle Giessen. Außerdem berät sie als Fachkuratorin die LBBW beim Ankauf für deren Kunstsammlung, ist Kunstbeauftragte des Landes Hessen für Kunst am Bau-Projekte und ist Lehrbeauftragte an verschiedenen Universitäten die Praxis des Kuratierens. Überdies ist sie Teil des Künstlerischen Beirats für Kunst im Öffentlichen Raum der Stadt Gießen. Nadia Ismail hat eine Vielzahl von Texten zur Gegenwartskunst verfasst und veröffentlicht regelmäßig monografische Kataloge.

Behind F44.3, the almost casual-sounding title of the solo show by Polish-German artist Kurt von Bley, lies the ICD code for trance and obsessive states. The International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, or ICD for short, is a globally recognized system in which medical diagnoses are uniformly named.

At the heart of the exhibition at Mouches Volantes is a critical examination of the religious dogmas of Catholicism and its immanent set of rules, on which sometimes draconian rituals are based. The artist resolutely focuses on the hidden side of exorcism practices. At the same time, he looks at the psychosomatic explanations of conventional medicine and visually processes the contrasts of obsession and its social effects.

Kurt von Bley (*1976 in Königshütte/Poland) explores the theme of 'identity' in his multimedia oeuvre. His predominantly sculptural, object-like and installative works are radically infused with religious allusions and at the same time contain autobiographical references. The artist lives and works in Berlin, where he is currently studying at the University of the Arts in the class of Prof. Thomas Zipp. His work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions in Germany and internationally.

Dr. Nadia Ismail is the director of the Kunsthalle Giessen. As a specialist curator, she also advises the LBBW on acquisitions for its art collection, is the art representative of the state of Hesse for art in architecture projects and teaches the practice of curating at various universities. She is also part of the Artistic Advisory Board for Art in Public Space of the City of Giessen. Nadia Ismail has written numerous texts on contemporary art and regularly publishes monographic catalogs.
